Lucien Engelen is the Lead of A4I (Accelerator for Implementation and Impact) at Maastricht UMC+, where he focuses on accelerating the adoption and real-world impact of healthcare innovation. Through A4I, he works with clinicians, researchers, technology companies, startups, and policymakers to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation, ensuring that promising digital health solutions translate into measurable improvements in patient care and health system performance.
Engelen is an internationally recognized authority on healthcare innovation, digital transformation, and the future of medicine. Over the past two decades, he has advised hospitals, governments, academic institutions, and global technology companies on topics including artificial intelligence, digital health, patient empowerment, wearable technologies, and the future of healthcare delivery.
Prior to joining Maastricht UMC+, Engelen served for many years as Director of the REshape Center for Innovation at Radboud University Medical Center, where he pioneered patient-centered innovation and helped establish the center as a global leader in healthcare transformation. He has also served as an advisor to organizations including the European Commission, the World Health Organization, and numerous health systems and technology companies.
