Stefan Swartling Peterson is Professor of Global Transformation for Health at Karolinska Institutet, where he leads research and education on strengthening health systems through innovation, evidence-based policy, and sustainable transformation. His work focuses on improving health outcomes by integrating public health, digital innovation, systems thinking, and implementation science into healthcare delivery.

A physician and global health expert, Professor Swartling Peterson has more than three decades of experience working across academia, government, and international organizations. Before joining Karolinska Institutet, he served as Chief of Health at UNICEF, where he led global strategies to improve maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health. Earlier in his career, he was Director of the Department of Health at Save the Children Sweden and co-founded the Health Systems and Policy research group at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b).

Professor Swartling Peterson's research interests include primary healthcare, universal health coverage, implementation research, health systems strengthening, digital health, and the use of data and artificial intelligence to improve population health. He has contributed extensively to global policy development, working with governments, multilateral organizations, and academic institutions to advance equitable and resilient health systems.
