Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering:

Biocatalysis has become an integral part of sustainable chemical manufacturing by utilizing natural enzymes and biological catalysts to perform highly selective chemical transformations. Compared to conventional chemical catalysts, enzymes operate under mild reaction conditions, generate fewer by-products, and significantly reduce energy consumption. Their remarkable specificity has made biocatalysis increasingly valuable in pharmaceutical production, food processing, fine chemicals, biofuels, and environmental remediation.

Advances in enzyme engineering, protein design, synthetic biology, and metabolic engineering are expanding the capabilities of biocatalysts beyond their natural limitations. Researchers are developing thermostable enzymes, immobilized biocatalysts, and engineered microbial systems capable of delivering improved catalytic efficiency and industrial robustness. Artificial intelligence and computational biology are further accelerating enzyme discovery and optimization, enabling faster development of customized biocatalytic solutions.

This session welcomes contributions on enzyme engineering, microbial bioprocesses, enzyme immobilization, industrial biocatalysis, and emerging biotechnological applications.
