Dr. S. Azam Nurmohamed is a Consultant Internist-Nephrologist and the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Amsterdam UMC. He has been a medical specialist since 2005 and has been associated with the institution (specifically the VUmc location) since 1999. In his role as CMIO, Dr. Nurmohamed leads strategic digital health initiatives and the institution's comprehensive artificial intelligence strategy. His clinical and translation research focus spans nephrology, renal transplantation, immunology, and diabetes. He is actively involved in implementing and evaluating digital health applications, telemonitoring networks, and electronic health record (EHR)-integrated solutions aimed at enhancing patient engagement and clinic efficiency. He also acts as a primary expert on navigating the implementation, evaluation, and safe clinical governance of medical AI utilities within Dutch university hospital systems.
