Biography:

Niamh Smyth is Ireland's Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, serving in the Government of Ireland. In this role, she is responsible for advancing Ireland's digital transformation agenda, promoting the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence, strengthening the country's digital economy, and supporting international trade and investment.

Before her ministerial appointment, Minister Smyth served as a Teachta Dála (TD) representing the Cavan–Monaghan constituency and held a range of parliamentary responsibilities focused on enterprise, regional development, and public policy. Throughout her political career, she has been an advocate for economic growth, innovation, and improved public services through digital technologies.

As Minister of State, Smyth works closely with government departments, industry, academia, and international partners to implement Ireland's national strategies for AI and digital transformation. Her portfolio includes promoting trustworthy and human-centric AI, accelerating digital adoption across public services and businesses, supporting innovation ecosystems, and enhancing Ireland's competitiveness as a global hub for technology and investment.
