Anastasia Chalkidou

Programme director health tech, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)

Anastasia Chalkidou is the Programme Director for HealthTech at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, where she leads the development and delivery of NICE's HealthTech programme. She oversees the evaluation of medical devices, diagnostics, digital health technologies, and artificial intelligence-enabled healthcare solutions, helping ensure that innovative technologies adopted by the NHS are supported by robust clinical and economic evidence.

Before joining NICE, Dr. Chalkidou was Associate Director of the King's Technology Evaluation Centre (KiTEC) and a Senior Research Fellow in Health Technology Assessment at King's College London. Her academic work focused on complex interventions, medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health technologies. She has led numerous national and hospital-based health technology assessment (HTA) projects and has advised MedTech companies on evidence-generation strategies and value propositions throughout the product lifecycle.

Originally trained in clinical oncology, Dr. Chalkidou earned her medical degree in 2004 before completing an MSc in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, a PhD on the validation of positron emission tomography (PET) biomarkers in oncology, and an MA in Higher Education Practice. She is also co-chair of the Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi) Medical Devices Interest Group and serves as a co-investigator on ASSESS-DHT, a European initiative developing methodologies for the assessment of digital health technologies.
