Cancer Stem Cell Treatments

Cancer Stem Cell Treatments:

Cancer stem cell (CSC) treatments aim to target and eliminate the subset of cells within tumors that possess stem cell-like properties, contributing to cancer initiation, progression, and treatment resistance. Strategies include inhibiting CSC-specific pathways (such as Notch and Wnt signaling), targeting CSC-specific surface markers (like CD44 and CD133) with antibodies or small molecules, and inducing CSC differentiation to sensitize them to traditional therapies. Combining CSC-targeted therapies with conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation aims to eradicate both CSCs and differentiated tumor cells, reducing the likelihood of tumor recurrence and metastasis. Research in CSC treatments seek to improve outcomes and reduce the impact of cancer on patients' lives.
