AI in Pediatric Ophthalmology

AI in Pediatric Ophthalmology:

Pediatric ophthalmology presents unique challenges because early identification and appropriate management of childhood eye conditions can have a significant impact on lifelong visual development. Artificial intelligence is being explored as a tool for improving screening, recognizing abnormal visual development, and supporting early identification of pediatric eye disorders.

This session will examine AI-based approaches for detecting amblyopia, strabismus, refractive errors, pediatric retinal conditions, and other childhood vision disorders. Discussions will include automated image analysis, screening technologies, remote assessment, and digital tools designed to support early intervention.

The session will also address the importance of age-appropriate data, ethical considerations, parental consent, privacy, and clinical validation. Experts will discuss how AI can support pediatric eye-care professionals while maintaining careful clinical assessment and patient-centered approaches.
